Carrara made a statement to the Gold Coast Summer League competition with a big win over Nerang in the fourth round of the Open Division on the road last week.

OPEN - Carrara (2)

NERANG (2) lost TO CARRARA (2) 5-19
Carrara headed into this contest filled with confidence on the back of a win in Round Three and look determined to string back-to-back wins over the win-less Nerang outfit

Danny Woolbank fought tooth and nail to take down William Mountford-Jones. After dropping his opening two matches to start the season, Danny consolidated with back to back wins, highlighted by his strong effort over William. After trailing 2-1 from three games, Danny responded by taking out the fourth and fifth games to seal the contest.

Captain, Michael Betts continued his flawless start to the season. He backed up his 3-1 win over Josh Fadaely-Sidhu in the third round with an identical result over Hugh Harveson. After dropping the opening game 15-13, Michael flexed his muscles and performed brilliantly, getting better with each game to run over the top of Hugh to claim the final three games. The fourth game was flawless, winning 15-0 in a commanding display.

Dale Robbins has been in some blistering touch in his squash matches this year. Since the resumption from COVID-19 break, after losing his opening game to Wayne Evans in five, he has not dropped a match since. His winning streak started against TJ French on July 30, a contest that he won 3-1. In the Round Four clash between the pair, he was challenged but did what he had to do to win in three for the first time this season.

Larry Malan made it a clean sweep for Carrara with an impressive five-set win over Matthew Judge. Larry took the opening two games before Matt returned fire by taking the next two. In the best game of the night between the pair, it was Larry who held firm to win 15-12. This was Larry’s second win over Matthew in as many contests in the head-to-head battles between the pair.
