OPEN - Carrara 1
SOUTHPORT (1) lost to CARRARA (1) 7-15
The rematch of the Open Grand Final lived up to the expectations of being an instant classic.
For Carrara, it was the efforts of Joel Luca that proved to be the most important factor in determining the outcome of the contest. The pair had previously gone toe-to-toe in the final with Joel winning in five.
Jeff started strongly to take the opener before Joel took the second game 11-7. Jeff closed the match in four but it was Joel’s second game win that would ultimately hand Carrara victory in a string of 3-0 results across the other three matches.
Melissa Martin had a strong game on her hands for Carrara in the contest against Kody Harmes. The Southport dynamo won in three but was pushed across all games by the Carrara star.
Wayne Evans drew first blood for Carrara on the night with an impressive 3-0 win over Johnny Davies. Wayne worked hard to a 2-0 lead that was enough to break the spirit of Johnny and seal a three-love win.
Fresh off her trip from Far North Queensland, Alex Haydon returned to the court in style with a remarkable 3-0 win over Mark Robinson to guide Carrara to victory. Alex set up the win when she took out the second game 15-4.

A GRADE - Carrara (3)
CARRARA (3) lost to SOUTHPORT (2) 6-16
Carrara came up against a Southport side lacking that little bit of confidence after not being able to taste victory in its opening three games while Carrara was looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Ian Black had a tough contest against Bryce Macdonald with the Southport star taking the first game in an arm-wrestle 16-14. That was enough for Bryce to gain the upper-hand and confidence as he sealed the contest in three and got Southport off to the perfect start.
Peter Thompson got better with each game in his loss against Southport’s Phillip Boyd despite going down in three. Phillip played just his second game of the season and held firm against Peter in the opening two games before having the fight of his life in the third, closing the match out 16-14.
In the most highly anticipated match up of the game, the previously unbeaten Zach Featherstone went down in a tight contest against the outstanding Dan Bartholomew of Southport. The match was set up in the opening game when Dane sprinted out to a 15-3 win to catch Zach on the hop. Zach responded to challenge in game two, and win game three before Dan closed out the contest in the fourth 15-11.
Anthony Freeman delivered some joy for Carrara with an impressive three-love win over Tony Crosbie. Tight first and second games set up Anthony for some confidence to claim the third, 15-3 to give Carrara something positive to take out of the game.

CARRARA (6) lost to LABRADOR (12) 4-20
The win-less Carrara came up against a red-hot Labrador outfit determined to extend its winning streak to three in its quest to tackle power-house teams Nerang (11) and Labrador (13).
Full credit to Carrara who came out to play across all matches.
Andrew Baxter went down to Robert Knight in three, and despite a lop-sided first game, put up a great challenge in the second when he went down 17-15 and then narrowly went down in the third and deciding game.
Jo Morecroft was strong in her match for the opening two games against Ken Vernon. After taking Ken to 16-14 in the second, it was one way traffic in the third. It was still a gallant effort from the Carrara star.
Carrara’s Darcey Captiste started brilliantly against Labrador’s Jacqui Benny. Darcey blitzed Jacqui in the opening game 15-3 and consolidated that momentum in the second game to win 15-10. Jacqui found her groove in the third to win 15-7 and after shaking off Darcey in a tight fourth game, stormed to victory in five.
Carrara’s Hayam Kim continues to improve with each match. After going down in five across two of her last three matches, she was determined to step up and take the game up to Angela Van Daal. The Labrador star was too good in the first two games before Hayan returned fire with a brilliant recovery to take games three and four to set up a decider. Angela was too strong when it counted and won 15-9.
